Hundreds of students from Muhammadiyah University of Yogyakarta (UMY) once again filled the Zero Kilometer Point area on Wednesday (17/6/2026).

The action entitled "Reddening the Zero Point" is a continuation of the student demonstrations in the heart of Yogyakarta City, reaffirming their opposition to government policies that are seen as further distancing from the interests of the people.

Since noon, the masses, who were part of the UMY Movement Alliance, wore their university jackets and displayed banners containing criticisms.

The alliance's general coordinator, Arif, emphasized that the choice of the Zero Point was not just a symbol, but an effort to revive the collective memory of student resistance and to attract the attention of the wider public.

In their speeches, students conveyed eight main demands that they referred to as the voice of the people:

1. Genuine agrarian reform and withdrawal of Indonesia's membership from international institutions deemed not in line with the interests of the people.

2. Stop non-people-oriented programs, including free nutritious meals (MBG) and national strategic projects.

3. Lower fuel prices and basic needs.

4. Return the military and police to their barracks and stop military criminalization.

5. Stop the criminalization of activists and ensure freedom of speech.

6. Stop land grabbing and natural resource exploitation.

7. Prioritize the state budget for education and health, and stop the privatization of education.

8. Demand that Prabowo-Gibran acknowledge mistakes or step down.

Arif added that foreign interests still dominate economic policies, burdening the people even more.

In addition to the eight demands, students also criticized the national strategic projects (PSN) which they deemed as burdening the state budget.

A representative from UIN Sunan Kalijaga, Dias Habibi, criticized the rushed implementation of the free nutritious meals program without scientific studies. He even linked corruption cases in the National Nutrition Agency as evidence of weak oversight systems.

Students also urged the government not to hide behind the excuse of global price fluctuations when determining fuel prices.

They demanded an acceleration of energy transition and national industrial development so that Indonesia does not depend on imports.

The action at the Zero Point in Jogja reaffirms the students' consistency as critical opposition. With the eight demands they voiced, students hope that the government will have the courage to acknowledge mistakes or take a step back in the interest of the people.
