The police stated that the perpetrator, identified as YI (13), cruelly took the life of primary school teacher Sri Khodijah (47) because he panicked after his theft was caught by the victim in her house.
South OKU Police Chief, AKBP I Made Redi Hartana, through Criminal Investigation Unit Chief AKP Aston L. Sinaga on Wednesday (17/6), explained that the perpetrator stabbed the victim using a kitchen knife found in the house.
The victim passed away at the scene of the incident. After that, the perpetrator fled from South OKU before eventually surrendering to the police.
Perpetrator YI, a seventh-grade student at SMP Negeri 4 Buay Pemaca, was initially on the run.
She then went to the Rantau Alai Police Station, Ogan Ilir, to surrender on Tuesday (16/6/2026).
The information was then forwarded to the Ogan Ilir Police Resort and South OKU Police Resort.
The Criminal Investigation Unit of Buay Pemaca Police Station immediately picked up the perpetrator and brought her back to South OKU.
Then in the early hours of Wednesday, YI arrived at the Buay Pemaca Police Station, and was handed over to the Women and Children Protection Unit of the South OKU Police Resort for further examination.
In the initial questioning, YI admitted to her actions. She is charged under Article 466 of the Criminal Code with a maximum penalty of seven years in prison.
However, because she is still a minor, the legal process follows the Juvenile Justice System.
The police are currently delving deeper into this case by questioning witnesses and gathering additional evidence.
