Madonna caused a sensation in Times Square on Thursday night (04.06.26) when she surprised fans with a live performance of her new single, Love Sensation. The event drew in over 50,000 excited fans, turning the heart of New York into a massive open-air nightclub for the night. The track was released on streaming platforms shortly after the performance.
This surprise gig, in partnership with the LGBTQ+ dating app Grindr, marked the debut of new material from Madonna's upcoming album, Confessions II, set to be released on July 3. In addition to Love Sensation, she also performed I Feel So Free, Bring Your Love (a duet with Sabrina Carpenter), and a number of fan favorites from Confessions on a Dance Floor, such as Hung Up, Get Together, and I Love New York.
The performance was broadcast globally via Grindr's first-ever livestream, allowing fans from all over the world to join in the street-party atmosphere as Times Square transformed into a full-scale rave. Love Sensation had been generating buzz since April, when Madonna teased a snippet during a surprise appearance at a West Hollywood club.
Madonna's goal is to demonstrate that the dance floor is still vibrant and alive. In response to Charli XCX's statement that the "dancefloor is dead," Madonna posted disco-themed images on Instagram with a caption that many fans interpreted as a direct response: "If your Dance Floor feels dead Maybe you're playing the wrong music."
