M.I.A. has filed a lawsuit against Kid Cudi for over $2.8 million (آ£2.08 million) after being removed from his Rebel Ragers Tour. Kid Cudi made the decision to remove the Paper Planes artist after she made what he deemed as "offensive remarks" during a show, which upset fans who reached out to him.
In the complaint filed in the United States Court District of California Western Division on 29 May, M.I.A. claims that Kid Cudi was aware of her political beliefs and reputation before inviting her to open the tour. The complaint alleges that M.I.A. was terminated to generate publicity for the struggling tour, which was facing challenges with ticket sales.
During a monologue at the Dallas show on 2 May, M.I.A. faced backlash and was booed for expressing her opinions. She mentioned being surprised to be cancelled for being a brown Republican voter.
A representative for M.I.A. stated in a statement shared with Rolling Stone that Kid Cudi's actions to silence artistic expression and speech on the tour are being challenged. They emphasized that censorship goes against M.I.A.'s values that she has fought for throughout her career.
In addition to seeking $2.8 million from the alleged guarantee, the lawsuit also demands compensatory damages exceeding $75,000 (آ£56,000), legal fees, and any further relief deemed necessary by the court. The photo credit goes to Raph_PH.
