Lil Nas X recently broke his social media silence to provide his fans with an update on his well-being. After spending time in rehab and receiving a bipolar disorder diagnosis, he shared that he is "doing much better" and feeling "less fear in his heart."
This heartfelt update in the form of a video statement is the first major communication from the Grammy Award-winning artist since last August, when a mental health episode led to an arrest in Los Angeles. Following this incident, a judge allowed Lil Nas X, whose real name is Montero Hill, to enter a mental health diversion program instead of facing criminal charges, recognizing that his behavior was out of character.
In an Instagram post, Hill opened up about his long-overdue diagnosis, admitting that he had known for a few years but was hesitant to accept it due to concerns about taking medication and potential judgment from others. Despite facing societal challenges as a Black and gay individual, he humorously acknowledged the additional layer of being gay and bipolar, likening it to living life on "extreme hard mode."
Nevertheless, the Atlanta-born artist expressed optimism about his current state, emphasizing that he is feeling better, creating freely, and experiencing a sense of peace. While he has no immediate plans to return to the spotlight, he assured his fans that his creativity has not waned during his recovery.
Despite his journey, Lil Nas X remains a global superstar known for hits like "Old Town Road" and "Montero (Call Me By Your Name)," solidifying his status as a queer pop icon. Fans can expect more music from him in the future as he continues to navigate his mental health journey.
