Kacey Musgraves has shared an anecdote about being approached by police officers while posing with a “really sweet†bull for her latest album cover photoshoot.
Speaking on CBS News’ Sunday Morning, the Grammy Award-winner explained how she collaborated with her sister, Kelly Sutton, to create the artwork for her upcoming project, Middle of Nowhere.
The duo decided that Kacey should be photographed next to a bull on a quiet Dallas street, but they hadn't planned out the logistics in advance.
“I called my friend Evan, I was like, ‘Do you have any bulls that you could bring?’ And he was like, ‘Yeah, actually I’ve got a really sweet one. His name is Tex,'†she recalled. “And at one point, the police came over. They asked, ‘Do you guys have a permit for this?’ And we were like, ‘No?’ And they were like, ‘All right.'â€
Middle of Nowhere includes the single Dry Spell and is Kacey's seventh studio album, scheduled for release on 1 May.
“It’s nice just to be able to stop the tape and kind of evaluate, like, ‘Okay, why do I make these choices? How am I drawn to certain archetypes of people? What does that say about me?'†the 37-year-old reflected. “Now, I realise that there’s nothing more lonely than being in a relationship that isn’t right for you. It’s way more lonely than just being by yourself.â€
Kacey was previously married to Ruston Kelly from 2017 until their divorce was finalized in September 2020. She then dated poet Cole Schafer for two years.
Referring to the lyrics in Dry Spell, Kacey hinted at having a new romantic interest. “The dry spell was broken, I’ll just say that,†she quipped. “The dry spell is broken, I’ve got everything I need!â€
