Music News: Rod Stewart Slams Donald Trump

Rod Stewart has criticized “draft dodger” Donald Trump after the US president's comments about NATO troops and their involvement in Afghanistan.

During a Fox News interview earlier this week, Trump expressed disapproval of America's NATO allies, minimizing their role in the fight against terrorism.

“We’ve never needed them. We have never really asked anything of them,” Trump said regarding NATO. “You know, they’ll say they sent some troops to Afghanistan, or this or that. And they did, they stayed a little back, a little off the front lines.”

Trump's remarks sparked outrage among European politicians and also from his former friend and neighbor, Sir Rod Stewart.

“I may just be a humble rock star, I’m also a knight of the realm, and I have my opinions,” Stewart stated in response to Trump's comments in a video posted on social media.

“We lost over 400 of our guys. Think of their parents, think about it, when Trump calls them almost like cowards. It’s unbearable.”

Stewart went on to say, “I’m calling on you, Prime Minister Starmer, please make the draft dodger Trump apologize. Please!”

Throughout the war on terror that spanned decades, 457 British troops lost their lives in Afghanistan.

Starmer condemned Trump's statements, saying, “I will never forget their courage, their bravery and the sacrifice they made for their country. I consider President Trump’s remarks to be insulting and frankly appalling.”

In 1972, when summoned to serve in the Vietnam War, Trump was diagnosed with bone spurs in his heels, exempting him from military duty.
