Music News: Mary J. Blige Wins Lawsuit Dismissal

Mary J. Blige has successfully had a lawsuit brought against her by former friend Misa Hylton dismissed.

In April 2025, Hylton filed a legal complaint accusing the R&B superstar of pressuring rapper Vado to terminate his management agreement with her.

Hylton also claimed that Blige wanted to sign Vado, also known as Teyon Winfree, to her company Beautiful Life Productions, and intentionally damaged their professional relationship. She sought $5 million (£3.7 million) in damages for breach of contract.

Blige's legal team refuted the allegations, and Judge Phaedra F. Perry-Bond in a New York court ruled in favor of the motion to dismiss the case.

Judge Perry-Bond pointed out that Hylton did not respond to Blige's request for dismissal, essentially dropping the case.

Blige's request to penalize Hylton for filing the case was denied by Judge Perry-Bond, but she cautioned that the request could be brought back.

Following the update, Hylton's lawyer, Nicholas Ramcharitar, mentioned that his client chose to withdraw the lawsuit due to alleged threats received during Sean 'Diddy' Combs's sex trafficking trial last year. Hylton and Combs were in a relationship in the early '90s and share a son, Justin Combs, born in 1993.

Blige's representatives have not yet issued a statement regarding the dismissal.
