Music News: Trey Songz Arrested
Trey Songz has been arrested for allegedly punching a nightclub employee earlier this month.
According to editors at The New York Post, the R&B singer-songwriter appeared in court on Sunday, where he was arraigned on an assault charge related to an alleged brawl that occurred at a Manhattan venue in the early hours of 4 December.
Prosecutors claimed Trey â" real name Tremaine Neverson â" became âneedlessly irateâ when he was asked to leave the Dramma nightclub around 4:30 am and attacked the staff member, causing âswelling and substantial painâ.
In addition, Neverson is facing an additional charge of mischief in the second degree from a separate incident that allegedly took place at the Mira restaurant the same morning.
Lawyers alleged the Slow Motion hitmaker broke around $1,500 (£1,100) worth of property at the site.
âHis security intervened to protect him and contain the situation, and an altercation occurred in the ensuring confusion. Despite being the target of the initial provocation, Trey was arrested,â he said, according to the outlet. âPublic figures are often treated as targets for instigation in pursuit of headlines or financial gain. Trey is cooperating fully in both matters, and we are confident the full context and facts will come to light.â
Neverson, 41, is due to appear in court again on 18 February 2026.
Itâs not the first time the artist has been accused of assault.
In 2016, Neverson was charged with felony assault of a police officer and misdemeanour aggravated assault for injuring a photographer. He pleaded guilty to two reduced counts and was sentenced to 18 months of probation.
