Geum Jan-di, the protagonist in Boys Over Flowers, is a regular guy from an average home who befriends Jun Pyo, a pampered brat who attends the elite Shinhwa High School. Pyo is the leader of the F4, a bad-boy gang. Yoon Ji-Hu, Song Woo-bin, and So Yi-Jung are his three affluent friends with whom he never parted ways. The F4 gang torments a child to the point where he considers suicide one day. Geum Jan-di, on the other hand, intervenes and saves the youngster. A scholarship allows her to attend the renowned Shinhwa High School.

Geum Jan-di is a young lady from a low-income household who owns and operates a dry cleaning firm. She and her father are jammed into a small house. Her younger brother is her only sibling. Jun-Pyo and Jan Di create a mutually destructive loathing for each other due to her dislike for the F4 boys. Jun Pyo constantly picks on her, but Jan Di can always resist his advances.

As time passes, Jun-Pyo adores her in a way he never anticipated. Jan-Di, though, is having a different luck. She discovers she is falling for Yoon Ji-Hun. Later on, she finds out that Ji-Hun is interested in someone else. Throughout the season, with numerous love triangles and conflicts, viewers observe these characters going through various romantic and platonic emotions.
